The government began declassifying images from reconnaissance satellites with Bill Clinton’s Executive Order 12951 in 1995 and its subsequent continuations. One of these declassifications (taking place in 2011) included almost all of the imagery from the KH-9 Hexagon cameras, amounting to around 29,000 images. In my work I tend to use easily accessible aerial photography online from NASA, weather tracker satellites, and commercial sites like Google Earth, but when I stumbled upon an article about the Keyhole Hexagon I decided to start looking into how I could see those photographs. This book and installation catalogue my attempts to do just that.
